On the final leg of my recent trip back home, I was invited to play in the Scottish Senior Open Alliance Pro-Am at the impressive Renaissance Club approximately 30 minutes drive east of Edinburgh.  The Renaissance Club is situated next door to arguably one of best links courses in the world, Muirfield.  Within a stone’s throw, golfers can test their skills on the three courses at Gullane and a further two courses at Archerfield.  It would be rude not to mention North Berwick, Longniddry, Kilspindie, Luffness and Craigielaw all within a 10 minute drive.  East Lothian has it all!

The Friendly Tour, an alternative way of entertaining clients!

The Scottish Senior Open is part of the 15 tournament schedule of the European Senior Tour, culminating in the MCB Tour Championship at the beautiful Constance Belle Mare Plage Resort, Mauritius in December. Much has been written and discussed about the European Senior Tour over the last few years, about its strength compared to the Champions Tour in America and the prize funds available.  However with smaller fields compared to its “younger” yet bigger brother, the European Senior Tour is a close knit family.

As a result of being part of a two day Pro-Am I was able to experience the relaxed yet competitive nature of the professionals.  As someone who grew up watching Ballesteros, Faldo, Lyle and Woosnam in their prime, being able to listen to stories about them from their fellow professionals is a unique opportunity.  Whether it being discussing a victory on Tour, playing one of the majors or being on a Ryder Cup winning team clients have the opportunity to spend two days breathing in these real-life experiences.

The Scottish Senior Open field hosted one US Masters Champion and twelve former Ryder Cup players alone.  Would your clients normally have the opportunity to play with these professionals at the next Corporate Golf Day invitation they receive?

Let’s face it many keen amateur golfers aspire to be a Tour Professional.   If they can’t make it, being able to play golf with them is the next best thing.  If businesses are looking at different and alternative ways of entertaining clients for one or two days then participating in one of the various Pro-am formats is a welcome change from the usual corporate golf days. Playing on championship golf courses with first class hospitality is an experience which companies are able to gain access to on a regular basis throughout Europe and further afield on the European Senior Tour.

I have been very fortunate to play in Pro-Ams on the main European Tour however this privilege is limited to the few, as spaces are generally not open to the public.  Unless you are invited by a Sponsor or lucky enough to win a competition, the chance may never come along.

If you are looking for more information or assistance in participating at European Senior Tour Pro-Ams please feel free to contact myself at neal@ngconsultancyme.com

As for me, I am back in Dubai now getting ready for the busy upcoming tournament schedule starting with the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates from the 16th – 19th November 2017.

Thank you for your time!
